The Mayor is responsible for producing a new planning strategy for London. The London Strategy Plan for the next 35 years goal is to absorb 800,000 more Londoners by 2016. This will put the London's population to 8.1 millions. It requires 30,000 new homes a year, rising from 23,000 in 2004. Three themes: Strong, diverse long term economic growth Social inclusivity to give all Londoners the opportunity to share in London's future success Fundamental improvements in London's environment and use of resources.
