The HSV (Homebuyer's Survey and Valuation report) is a standard survey which gives you legal recourse. It focuses only on the following matters :

• The general conditions of the property
• Recommendation for further specialist inspections
• Significant and urgent problems
• Dampness of the walls, comments on damp-proofing, evidence of damp
• Comments on timbers, woodworm or rot
• Comments on insulation, and drainage (not tested)
• Cost of reconstruction if damaged (for insurance purposes)
• The property's value
